Overview
This course will explore recent developments in safeguarding adults practice, arising from a number of national initiatives to improve awareness and understanding of discrimination. The under reporting of discriminatory abuse in both safeguarding enquiries and reviews has been identified leading to prioritise this at both national and local levels. It is written to be suitable for qualified practitioners, who may take responsibility for safeguarding practice, however it can be adapted to the needs of different audience, including non-qualified staff working with adults at risk.Who is Safeguarding Adults and Discriminatory Abuse aimed at?

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-
- Definitions of discriminatory abuse, prevalence data and analysis of power dynamics for adults at risk
- Legal context, including Human Rights Act 1998, Equalities Act 2010 (disability discrimination), Hate Crime & Mate Crime 2003, Mental Capacity Act 2005 & The Care Act 2014.
- Anti discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice
- Reluctance to report discrimination and challenges for practice
- Indicators and responses to discriminatory abuse.
- Best practice and recording of safeguarding work.
