Gaynor Morrison is a Registered Midwife, Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA), Safeguarding Supervisor, and Senior Lecturer in Midwifery. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and an MSc, with a research focus on health inequalities and babies born into care.
With more than 30 years of experience across the United Kingdom and Australia, Gaynor has worked extensively within both clinical practice and higher education. Her commitment to compassionate, woman-centred, and family-focused care has been recognised nationally through the award of the Chief Midwifery Officer for England Silver Award for Outstanding Service to Midwifery for the innovative project “You Were Held.” This ongoing initiative provides photography services delivered by midwives for mothers and babies who are at risk of separation at birth, helping to preserve memories and support attachment during challenging circumstances.
Currently a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at a London-based university, Gaynor develops and delivers education that uses the perspective of the unborn and newborn baby to explore the complex dynamics that babies bring to families. Her teaching and professional interests centre on health inequalities, safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and compassionate, non-judgemental approaches to maternity care. She is passionate about supporting practitioners to understand the experiences of vulnerable families and to provide care that promotes dignity, inclusion, and positive outcomes for babies, parents, and communities.
