Overview
Supporting young people who have been separated from their families and country of origin required a relational and trauma informed approach. This training aims to increase the knowledge, skills, and understanding of practitioners working with UASC in order to effectively support their emotional wellbeing. The training highlights the complex needs of unaccompanied children – which often include specific legal, social, emotional and cultural needs – enabling professionals to offer appropriate trauma informed care. In attending this course practitioners will develop skill and confidence in:-
- Understanding and supporting the impact of trauma and loss for a separated young person
- Understand and develop greater knowledge of the impact of trauma derived from war and conflict
- Identifying the risk and impact of exploitation in assessments and planning for separated young people
- Building effective relationships to improve planning and outcomes for separated young people
- Working with & effectively utilising interpreter and translation services when building relationships
- Utilising tools and strategies to explore the journey, voice and aspirations of separated young people
- Creating & developing a greater sense of community membership for separated young people
