Overview

This course offers a comprehensive overview of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and how to effectively implement and evidence them in health and care settings. It begins by outlining the Fundamental Standards, which are the essential requirements all services must meet to ensure safe, respectful, and person-centred care. These include principles such as dignity and respect, consent, safeguarding, safe staffing, and good governance. The course also covers the importance of openness and transparency, including the duty of candour and the proper display of service ratings. Building on this, the course explores the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) – the five core domains that the CQC uses to assess services: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-Led. These domains provide a framework for evaluating the quality of care and leadership within organisations. A key component of the updated approach is the introduction of six new evidence categories. These reflect a broader and more holistic method of assessing care quality, incorporating people’s lived experiences, staff and partner feedback, observations of care, the effectiveness of processes, and measurable outcomes. Finally, the course focuses on implementation and evidencing, offering practical strategies for applying the standards in daily practice and for collecting and presenting meaningful evidence. This ensures that services are not only compliant but are also continuously improving and responsive to the needs of those they support.
