Overview

This half day course, which will be adapted to meet specific requirements, is intended for staff who do not have a current working knowledge of the assessment and care and support planning aspects of The Care Act and who will not be using this knowledge directly in their day to day practice. However, this course will increase their understanding of how allied professionals work within this legislation.

Who is Care Act Awareness aimed at?

Individuals in Adult Social Care, Childrens Social Care or Health Care who do not have a current working knowledge of the assessment and care and support planning aspects of The Care Act and who will not be using this knowledge directly in their day to day practice

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this half day programme, delegates will be able to:- 

  • Recount the key principles of the Care Act and the duties and powers relating to assessment
  • Identify the nine principles of wellbeing
  • Highlight the key aspects arising from the Prevention and Information and Advice duties
  • Understand what a strengths based approach is, focusing on the person’s skills and strengths, prior to considering their needs and test out strengths based questions
  • Distinguish between personal and eligibility outcomes
  • Understand the 3 stage eligibility threshold and the term significant impact
  • Identify the essential components of a Care and Support Plan
  • Understand the difference between an Indicative and an actual Personal Budget
  • Identify support options and explore the range of ways needs can be met and the different ways a Personal Budget can be taken
  • Cite examples of creative solutions in support planning
