This one day course builds on knowledge and skills gained on level one and will enable participants to develop a more detailed understanding of the communicative and environmental strategies that are known to help autistic children and adults make sense of the world.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will have been offered the opportunity to:

• Review the knowledge and skills acquired on the level 1 course.

• Describe the benefits of using alternative and augmented communication tools, including the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

• Practise writing a Social Story and understand the use of Comics Strips to support understanding of social interaction.

• Explore and understand some recognised approaches to working with autistic children and adults, including:

     o The TEACCH Approach o Intensive Interaction

     o The National Autistic Society’s SPELL framework.
