By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-
- Describe what is meant by the terms Neurodiversity and “The Autistic Spectrum.”
- Discuss what is now known about autism, including prevalence, the profile of autistic females and diagnostic criteria.
- Explore the potential differences or difficulties in social communication and interaction experienced by autistic children.
- Describe why some autistic children may be repetitive in their words and actions and may find it hard to consider hypothetical and abstract concepts.
- Understand the process of sensory integration including the difference between hyper and hypo sensitivity
- Explore strategies that may help to minimise anxiety.
