Learning Outcomes

On conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:-

  • ​Highlight the elements of the Health and Safety at Work Act which relate to personal safety
  • Identify the differences between aggressors who are reactionary, intentional or opportunistic
  • Discuss the importance of managing our own emotional state when facing potential risk
  • Describe the way we can apply the A Proactive Approach to Conflict model to de-escalate a person who is reactionary or diffuse a volatile situation
  • Demonstrate how to incorporate the principles of 'active awareness' into our practice in order to protect ourselves against the intentional or opportunist attacker
  • Explain a series of strategies which can be applied before we leave, when we arrive in an area, when we arrive at a property and when we enter a property to enhance our personal safety
  • Upon entering a property identify and plan your exit or escape route
  • Consider the importance of and accessing post-incident support.
