Overview

This training course provides health and social care professionals with a comprehensive understanding of dementia, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to support individuals living with the condition. Participants will explore the different types of dementia and their progression, gaining insight into the emotional, social, and practical impact on individuals and their families. By the end of the course delegates will be able to:-

  •  Understand the different types of dementia and how they progress over time.
  • Explore the impact of dementia on the individual and their family, 
    considering emotional, social, and practical challenges.
  • Learn how to conduct a dementia-related assessment, considering legal,  ethical, and safeguarding principles, including the Mental Capacity Act and the Care Act.
  • Develop effective communication strategies to ensure you can accurately gather an individual’s wishes and feelings, adapting your approach to meet their unique needs.
  • Ensure assessments and reports are written in clear, accessible language that families can understand, avoiding jargon and focusing on how the individual wishes to live.
  • Recognise the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion in dementia care, understanding the social construction of aging and addressing the risks of marginalization within the health and care sector.
