The aim of this course is to support social worker practitioners in gaining knowledge of the Human Rights Act 1998 and understanding the importance of embedding human rights in their practice.

On completion of this course, participants will:
Have gained knowledge of the Human Rights Act 1998 & understand its importance
Have developed awareness of the difference between absolute and contingent rights and on what basis some human rights may be restricted
An understanding of how human rights relate to the legal frameworks which underpin social work/social care in their practice
Be able to identify human rights issues raised by a range of practice situations
Have developed skills in applying rights-based thinking to analysis and decision making in practice
Understand the concepts of necessity and proportionality and how to apply these in practice
Understand best practice in recording decision making, making rights-based analysis explicit
Be able to relate knowledge of the law to best practice
Be aware of practice issues and likely future developments in Human Rights
