Missing from Care

Course Outline

The purpose of this course is to enhance the knowledge of professionals dealing with children and young people when they return from missing. It will cover existing legislation and guidance, the independent return interview and Best Practice. Short case studies will be used to follow the process to enable delegates to develop and practice questioning skills.

This course was developed to provide a more advanced level of knowledge and understanding to senior social workers and other professionals who work with missing children. It uses short cases studies to enable practitioners to put into practice their interviewing skills and subsequent risk assessments.

What will you learn?

At the end of the course participants will:

  • Have a clear understanding of their role and responsibility in relation to children who go missing and the risks involved.
  • Be able to apply Best Practice and work in conjunction with partner agencies
  • Understand the current legislation and guidance as it applies to missing children.
  • Be able to undertake an independent return interview. Know how to implement required actions for a child following a missing episode.
