Cognitive Behavioural Therapy TL0638

Course Outline

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for a wide range of emotional, mental health and physical problems. Cognitive therapies focus on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that we hold (our cognitive processes) and how this relates to the way we behave, as a way of dealing with our emotions. It is a way of talking about how you think about yourself, the world and other people and how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapies include a wide range of treatment approaches along a continuum from structured individual psychotherapy to self help material. Although we might not want to practise formal structured CBT we can all use the ideas of CBT as part of our range of skills when working with our patient/client group in the process of helping them towards more positive change and confidence building.
This two day course will provide delegates with a clear framework of the CBT model, the history, its main principles and key techniques. The course will be useful in helping delegates to reflect on how they might want to incorporate ideas of CBT in their practise and also help delegates to develop confidence in using CBT skills in single sessions with clients/patients where appropriate.

Managing Professional Relationships TL0642

Course Outline

This course is aimed specifically at those managers who have a special need to forge strong working relationships outside of their immediate teams perhaps working across different disciplines and trades with the need to understand other's perspectives, working together to achieve organisational goals without having that 'silo' mentality.

The modular based programme uses experiential learning exercises around the theme of getting along with and working with others and the need to form productive networks.

Robust feedback is given after each learning experience to help embed and establish the learning points.

On day 2 we will link the areas of creativity and problem solving to facilitation skills by running a session to generate ideas at the end of the day which will leave delegates with a memorable exercise to demonstrate the power of creativity and enable them to understand the importance of using excellent facilitation techniques.

Similarly business writing reinforces the need for clarity by ensuring delegates see, through a powerful exercise, how easily information can be misinterpreted this in turn will create a natural lead into the need to communicate at an assertive level to ensure both parties reach a satisfactory solution these topics provide a subtle reinforcing link back to day 1 where the delegates have concentrated on how to work effectively with others.

Team Emotional Intelligence TL2018

Course Outline

Did you know that most teams aren’t working as effectively as they potentially could? Research indicates that between 50-70% of teams are not operating at full efficiency – and all too often it appears to be an overwhelming task for the team manager to pinpoint exactly what’s wrong and how to start putting things right.

Team Emotional intelligence has been identified in research as critical to the functioning of high performing teams. The team Ei psychometric provides employers with a cutting edge, credible and valid tool that drives teams towards higher performance by addressing the emotional aspects of team working by building a team climate that allows the team to achieve greater collaboration and performance.

What factors will improve my team’s effectiveness?

It’s important to highlight that a team with emotionally intelligent members does not necessarily make for an emotionally intelligent group. A team, like any social group, takes on its own character. So creating an upward, self-reinforcing spiral of trust, group identity, and group efficacy requires more than a few members who exhibit emotionally intelligent behaviour. It requires a team atmosphere in which the norms build emotional capacity (the ability to respond constructively in emotionally uncomfortable situations) and influence emotions in constructive ways.

Research has shown that three conditions are essential to a group’s effectiveness:

  • trust among members
  • a sense of group identity
  • a sense of group efficacy

When these conditions are absent, going through the motions of cooperating and participating is still possible. But the team will not be as effective as it could be, because members will choose to hold back rather than fully engage. To be most effective, the team needs to create emotionally intelligent norms—the attitudes and behaviours that eventually become habits—that support behaviours for building trust, group identity, and group efficacy. The outcome is complete engagement in tasks.

By following the team Ei process, research has proven that teams can increase their performance by as much as 25%.

How long is the course?

A 1 day In-house Seminar to maximise Team Performance

What will you learn?

Team Ei provides a detailed action plan for addressing team problems such as:

  • unproductive conflict
  • lack of follow through on commitments
  • low creativity and innovation
  • wasted time and energy
  • lack of resilience
  • the ability to change

or simply if you sense that higher performance is possible.
