Description of course:
“Excellent and interesting trainer - very enthusiastic. Will change my practice.”
(Specialist Nurse, Derbyshire)
The aim of Motivational Interviewing training is to enable practitioners to increase their competency at supporting clients to change their behaviour. This is specifically around lifestyle change, including weight management, smoking cessation, increased physical activity, medication adherence, substance use, healthy eating, breastfeeding.
This two day workshop offers delegates an in-depth opportunity to consider their current consulting style. Building on this self-awareness, delegates will learn new strategies from the world of MI and thus enhance their current practice.
MI emerged from the field of addictions treatment in the 1980s. Today, it has been successfully applied to and integrated within health and social care settings to address changes in a broad spectrum of behaviours. The development of a creative consulting method to changing behaviour can lead to improved outcomes in those individuals who appear to be resistant to change. A mix of theory and practice, this high calibre workshop emphasises the use of role-plays to practice skills and techniques with expert supervision.
