This is a one day course for the benefit of the newly qualified, inexperienced or nervous social worker faced with the worrying prospect of appearing in court. It is also useful for other professionals from a non-legal background who wish to gain an understanding of what to expect when required to making a court appearance.

The course is specifically designed to dispel the fears that are often felt by those encountering the legal system for the first time. It recognises the increasing demands upon workers from the health and social care industry to give persuasive and cogent evidence in court.

The course aims to provide an accessible, straight-forward explanation of the process, together with guidance as to how to give effective evidence. Delegates will look at how to handle cross examination and avoid common pitfalls.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:

• Articulate a good working knowledge of the court system
• Present evidence in an effective way
• Present themselves in a court room in a confident and professional manner
