Description of course:

“Best training course I have attended.”
(Foster Carer, Essex)

Human experiences of loss and change are central to the work of many health and social care professionals. However, non-death related losses are often overlooked as causes of grief while bereavement care has largely developed outside mainstream social provision e.g. within hospices and in bereavement counselling agencies.

Difficulties with life transitions, and the disruption and distress for people experiencing traumatic losses, such as: divorce, disabling illness, persisting poverty, disappointment of childlessness and bereavement are key agendas in the field of social and health care.

The challenge in health and social care is to be able to give full recognition to the place of loss in human experience and to help prevent the problematic results of grief which might be seen in long-term mental ill-health, relationship break-down and behavioural difficulties.

While the subject of this training is necessarily challenging, a practical and positive approach ensures the programme is a constructive and meaningful experience for all those who attend.
