POSITIVE STEPS

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES

FOR STAFF in HEALTHCARE

Positive Steps courses provide training for healthcare staff in a range of key personal development areas. The courses use adult education techniques, action learning principles and cognitive-behavioural theory.

The trainer has many years experience at all levels of the NHS. Staff will find that Positive Steps will also substantially enhance their professional lives. The courses are presented ‘on-site’ in practice/hospital/trust either as 1 or 2 day programmes (see below) with the addition of a follow-up day after several months to monitor progress.

Training is tailored, wherever possible, to the specialist environment in which healthcare staff are working. Maximum number of delegates on most courses is 12.

EFFECTIVE CUSTOMER CARE IN THE NHS (Max 12)

In the NHS dedicated staff respond to a variety of situations that are constantly changing. They are often in the position where they need to communicate important messages skillfully and present a positive and helpful image on behalf of the Trust. Yet NHS staff, trained to react swiftly and efficiently to health problems on a day-to-day basis, may lack the essential communication skills needed to deal with members of the general public, thus leading to a perceived lack of public satisfaction. This programme can remedy that.

Includes:

Performance evaluation, creating the right, impression, voice control, the use of body, language, managing complicated communications, finding solutions, learning for life.

For: Receptionists, Telephonists, Admissions Nurses, Outpatient Staff, Day Ward Staff, Appointments Clerks etc.

IMPROVING COMMUNICATION, PERFORMANCE & PRESENTATION SKILLS IN THE NHS (Max 10)

A 2-day intensive course designed to help participants to feel confident and enjoy public speaking, to challenge their own negative impressions and provide the opportunity to practice a range of communication skills. During the programme the participants learn to give and receive feedback and make real and rapid improvements in their performance. the structure of speech.

Includes: chair a meeting effectively, speak comfortably within a time limit, speak on any subject without formal preparation, prepare and deliver an effective formal speech, deliver constructive performance evaluations

For: Everyone who interacts with the public. Staff who represent their departments. Those required to write reports / audits. Any member of staff responsible for liaising with other sectors of the NHS or outside agency. Medical students new to a "working" environment

EFFECTIVE MEETINGS MANAGEMENT IN THE NHS (Max 12)

An ineffective meeting can leave people feeling frustrated and rather than bringing people together it can reinforce divisions and create unnecessary conflict. There is a great deal of evidence on how to apply effective group management techniques to create the successful meetings.

This programme provides the opportunity to learn, understand and practice applying these techniques in the workplace.

Includes: Learn the basics of what makes a group work effectively, Understand what makes meetings fail, Find out what is needed for successful meeting management, Apply your new skills to a range of scenarios, Develop your own meeting management style

For: Anyone in healthcare who wants to make the meetings they attend worthwhile and effective.

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP SKILLS IN THE NHS (Max 12)

Of particular benefit to new team leaders or those who have been in the role for a short time, this course examines all key aspects of team leadership.

The programme gives participants a chance to stand back, look at their leadership style and techniques, learn about a range of ideas, theories and tools that they can use and practice applying ideas to real life scenarios.

Includes: The evidence and theories of leadership, how leadership styles fit different situations, discover your own successful leadership strengths, apply new ideas and skills to a range of scenarios, develop a plan to enhance your own leadership style

For: Clerical or Medical Staff newly responsible for 1 or more subordinate(s). Those wishing to develop their roles as mentors for students/new staff.

WHO WILL BENEFIT?
