DEPRESSION IN OLDER PEOPLE

A 1-day seminar

DEPRESSION is NOT a natural process of ageing. Approximately 2-4% of the population over 65 years suffer from major depression, which reinforces that the majority DO NOT. However, those that are depressed in this age group are often under-recognised and under-treated, especially those in residential care homes. Recognising and managing depression in this age group leads to a better quality of life for both patients and carers.

WHO WILL BENEFIT?

Nurses, Doctors, Health visitors, Occupational health staff, Counsellors and other health and social care professionals who do not already have specialist training in depression. This practical programme is designed for anyone working with older people, who wants to know more about how to help people with depressive illnesses. Not suitable for Mental Health specialists.

WHAT IF I DO NOT FIT INTO THESE CATEGORIES?

The seminar programme is suitable for anyone working with elderly patients/clients who have depression & who do not already have training in depression. The list might include social workers, care home workers, voluntary sector workers, pharmacists, chiropodists, alternative practitioners, general hospital staff and people in related fields.
